Weightlifting

Beginners club

Weightlifting Beginners club is a 1h session run once a week that teaches beginners a general overview of Olympic weightlifting (Snatch and Clean and Jerk) so that they can perform the movements safely. We focus on breaking down the movement to easily understand the technique and highlight any weaknesses before building up to the full technique.

As a general rule, members in this club will take 2 months learning the techniques and then move onto a set programme to be completed to finalise beginners club. This is flexible as people learn at different rates and we do not want to rush people in their learning phase. The aim of the beginners club is for people to learn basic techniques in an enjoyable and manageable way.

Weightlifting Squad

This part of the club is being developed for those who are not only serious about competing, but show dedication to their training and are close to hitting qualifying numbers for national championships or higher. This does not mean that we are creating an elitist atmosphere for those specific athletes, the aim is to support them to fine tune their techniques and support the development of their mental strength (charnwood mindtree) and their body’s recovery (therapy on performance). They will also be supported with annual programming and nutrition all geared towards competitions.

These squad members are role models to other club members hoping to progress towards competing and another support pillar for the beginners and newcomers within the club.
